NFL: Texans GM assures – Flores lawsuit had no impact on head coaching search

Ex-Dolphins coach Brian Flores is certain that only his lawsuit against the NFL and three teams prevented him from being hired as head coach by the Houston Texans. Now GM Nick Caserio is speaking out about it.

Munich – It was only a few days ago that the Houston Texans announced who would be the team’s new head coach. Now Lovie Smith was introduced at a press conference and in the course of this, general manager Nick Caserio also immediately spoke on the subject of Brian Flores.

The former head coach of the Miami Dolphins had sued the NFL and three teams for racism and discrimination, among other things. However, according to Caserio, this is said to have had no impact on the fact that Flores, who was among the final three candidates for the head coaching position in Houston, did not get the job in the end.

“There were conversations with Brian after the lawsuit was filed, so it didn’t affect our process at all,” the GM said.

After Smith’s hiring on Monday, Flores’ lawyers had issued a statement saying he was “happy to hear the Texans hired a black head coach” but that it was “obvious that the only reason Mr. Flores was not selected was because of his decision to stand up against racial inequality in the NFL. “

Smith grateful for head coaching job

New head coach Smith has served as head coach with the Bears and Bucs, most recently working as defensive coordinator with the Texans. At his introductory press conference, he said he felt the NFL had a diversity problem, as he was one of only five minority head coaches.

“It’s not often you get the chance to lead three professional football teams. I don’t know if there is anyone like me who has had the opportunity,” he said.

Incidentally, the press conference, which was also attended by several former players, was interrupted by a false fire alarm.
