Myles Garrett has informed the Cleveland Browns that he wants to be traded.
A big trade is in the offing in the NFL.
Myles Garrett has informed the Cleveland Browns that he wants to be traded to another team.
This was announced by “ESPN” insider Adam Schefter. The star pass rusher wants to play for a Super Bowl and does not see this as a possibility with the Browns.
The 29-year-old writes: “When I dreamed of the NFL as a kid, I always just focused on the Super Bowl. That goal still drives me today. My love for the community in Northeast Ohio and this incredible Browns fanbase makes this one of the hardest decisions of my life. The last eight years have shaped me into the person I am today.”
And further: “Although I have loved calling this city home, my desire to play at the highest level does not allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to come from Cleveland to Canton. The goal was always to be able to play for a Super Bowl. So I asked for a trade from the Cleveland Browns.”
Garrett signed a five-year, $125 million contract with the Browns in 2020 and is under contract until after the 2026 season. In the event of a trade, the Cleveland franchise would face a hefty dead cap.
Myles Garrett: One of the best quarterback hunters in the league
The first overall pick of the 2017 draft is a four-time First Team All-Pro and already one of the best players in the history of the franchise.
Garrett has recorded 102.5 sacks in his career so far and after the 2024 season, he will be the first player in NFL history to have recorded at least 14.0 sacks in four consecutive seasons.
Although the Browns had a disappointing season with a 3-14 record, the star of the defense led the league with 22 tackles for loss. He also recorded 28 quarterback hits.
