Second win in the second preseason game for the Eagles. A solid Maye performance is not enough for the Patriots
The Philadelphia Eagles narrowly beat the New England Patriots 14-13 in their second preseason game.
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye was used by the Patriots and led the team on two of the three scoring drives on the field. Maye also ran for a touchdown himself.
He ended up playing in the second, third and fourth quarters, completing six of his eleven pass attempts for 47 yards.
Maye: “We had good plays and bad plays ”
“We had some good plays and some bad plays. There’s definitely a lot of things we can learn from,” Maye said. “It was good to go out there and have some shots to learn from.”
Especially since it looked like a win for New England for a long time. Coach Jerod Mayo’s team still held a 13-6 lead going into the fourth quarter. But rookie running back Kendall Milton, among others, turned the game in “Philly’s” favor.
Maye’s opponent, meanwhile, had a horror day. Jacoby Brissett started as the playmaker for the Pats, but blew his first three drives.
Brissett’s first drive was a turnover on downs, the second ended with an interception by Avonte Maddox.
Patriots test all four quarterbacks
The Pats then kicked again after three failed attempts, and Brissett’s tally was three of seven passes completed for 17 yards.
Star quarterback Jalen Hurts didn’t even get to play for the Eagles. Kenny Pickett played the first half, then Tanner McKee and Will Grier took over.
For the Patriots, Bailey Zappe and Joe Milton III also got playing time in the second half – Head Coach Jerod Mayo tested all four of his quarterbacks
