NFL playoffs: Denver Broncos win—and lose Bo Nix

In an overtime thriller, Bo Nix leads his Denver Broncos to victory—and then suffers a serious injury.

The jubilation after advancing to the AFC Championship Game was followed by shocking news: Bo Nix’s season is over after the divisional round.

As head coach Sean Payton announced after the Denver Broncos’ 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills, the starting quarterback broke his ankle. According to Payton, the mishap occurred in the third-to-last play of the game.  The surgery is scheduled to take place next week in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jarrett Stidham will be available as a replacement for the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game against the winner of the New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans game, with Sam Ehlinger likely to be his backup. “Stiddy is ready,” Payton said.

The bizarre thing is that Payton announced this after he had already held his post-game press conference.
