NFL: Patriots star Devin McCourty considers career end

After the disastrous exit in the Wild Card Round, the attention of the New England Patriots turns to the offseason. The safety position could be a potential construction site, as veteran Devin McCourty is flirting with a career ending.

Munich – “I’m going to take my time and then we’ll see what happens in the future,” safety Devin McCourty said on his Double Coverage podcast. He said he was in no hurry to make a timely decision about his future athletic career.

The 34-year-old veteran’s contract expires at the end of the season. For the New England Patriots, the former first-round pick was on the field in all 17 games of the season and in the crushing loss in the Wild Card Round. For Head Coach Bill Belichick’s team, he was once again an important pillar in the defensive construct, as he brings a lot of leadership qualities with his experience.

McCourty predicts “rosy future” for Patriots

In his coverage, he allowed just under 160 yards and no touchdowns all season. McCourty also caught three interceptions and recorded eight pass deflections – no sign of aging.

“I don’t notice any drop-off in my athletic or physical performance. It’s just important to me that I’m mentally ready to play another full season,” the three-time Super Bowl champion let slip.

Looking back at the Pats’ season now over, McCourty was optimistic: “The future looks bright for the Patriots, there are a lot of young, good players on the roster.” The next weeks and months will show whether McCourty will still be part of the squad.
