NFL: New York Jets replace offensive coordinator – Nathaniel Hackett demoted

The New York Jets continue to make changes to their coaching staff. After the dismissal of head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has now also been forced out.

The coaching merry-go-round in New York continues.

After the Jets parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh earlier this week, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has made the next big coaching decision.

At a press conference, he announced that Nathaniel Hackett will no longer be the play-caller for the offense. Todd Downing will take over for him and will henceforth be responsible for the game plan and play-calling during games.

However, Hackett has not been fired and will continue to “play an important role for the organization and the offense,” said Ulbrich.

New York Jets: New coaching staff

The new offensive coordinator Todd Downing is under contract with the Jets since 2023. Last season, the 44-year-old was responsible for the passing offense, and since this season he has also taken on the role of quarterback coach.

Downing will now work with veteran Aaron Rodgers to try to get the Jets’ offense back on track. Rodgers has just over 1,000 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions this season.

The Jets’ running game also needs attention. No team has rushed for fewer yards than the Jets this season (402).
