“I gave everything I had to rehab, but despite all the effort, my leg never responded the way we had hoped,” Travis explained in a handwritten letter announcing his retirement. ”After many prayers and consultations with doctors, medical experts, and my agent, I have been advised to retire from the sport I love so much.”
Travis was drafted by the Jets in the fifth round in 2024, 171st overall.
“It’s unfortunate that after so much hard work, he was unable to return to the field. We support his decision and wish him all the best,” Jets GM Darren Mougey was quoted as saying in an official statement from the franchise regarding Travis’ retirement.
Travis began his college career in Louisville in 2018 before transferring to Florida. For Florida State, he threw for 8,644 yards, 65 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions in 46 games.
Before his injury, Travis was considered a candidate for the first two rounds of the draft alongside Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, JJ McCarthy, and Bo Nix.
