There seems to be no end to the New England Patriots’ quarterback woes for now.

The New England Patriots picked young quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

The 21-year-old is set to become the franchise quarterback and put an end to New England’s long-standing playmaking problems.

But the first few days do not seem to give much hope. As the “New York Post” reports, Maye is having serious problems at the Patriots’ training camp.

While preparations for the new season are slowly but surely entering the hot phase, Maye is said to have had several sessions to forget.

The “New York Post” reports that the signal caller has made a “subterranean impression” at the Patriots’ current training camp.

Last Tuesday, the rookie is said to have caused the entire offense to be forced to do push-up drills with an errant pass to Javon Baker.

The ghost of Mac Jones

All in all, Maye doesn’t give the impression that he can bring the Patriots’ quarterback position back to its former strength.

“I’m the last person in the world who wanted to see what I saw, I wanted to lie to myself today,” sports commentator Michael Holley said Monday on “NBC Sports Boston.” “I saw Drake Maye in college, I loved him in college, you guys know that. He was an outstanding college player.

“Today in Foxborough, you know who I saw there? The ghost of Mac Jones. I saw the ghost of Mac Jones. Not just Mac Jones going against Tom Brady as a rookie, we’re talking about Mac Jones in Dallas in that horrible game, that horrible loss that New England took in Dallas last year. He was terrible, he was terrible in every way. He couldn’t do anything right.”

Jones was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the offseason – Maye was supposed to do better than the failed Brady successor. But there’s no sign of that so far

Is backup Milton coming up?

Several balls are said to have clearly missed the pass receivers. Reporters on the scene claim Maye can’t handle the pressure from the Patriots defense.

It’s hard for the Patriots to imagine what it will look like in the NFL.

Joe Milton III is also playing in Maye’s shadow. The quarterback was selected in the sixth round of the draft and is reportedly hardly any different from Maye’s quality.

In the few workouts Milton has had, the 24-year-old has delivered.

However, it is also clear that the few training impressions only represent part of his overall body of work. Time speaks for Maye. The playmaker still has around six weeks to improve
