NFL: Nashville would like to host Super Bowl 2029 in the Tennessee Titans’ new stadium

Tennessee is hoping to host Super Bowl 2029 in the Titans’ new stadium, which is currently under construction. The prospects are apparently promising.

The Super Bowl has never been held in Nashville, but if Tennessee’s governor Bill Lee has his way, that could change before the end of the decade.

Lee is committed to bringing the NFL’s biggest game to “Music City” and officially launched the process this week with a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

In the letter, the governor pointed out that Nashville has a “proven track record” of hosting major events, and also mentioned the fact that the city is in the process of building a brand new $2.1 billion NFL stadium that would be more than suitable for hosting a Super Bowl.

“This well-designed, state-of-the-art stadium, which will offer the best spectator experience in football, will provide players and fans with an unrivaled experience,” Lee wrote in the letter, according to local TV station WKRN.

A new stadium must be open for at least one full season before it can host a Super Bowl. In addition, Lee pointed out that the city successfully hosted the NFL Draft in 2019.

Super Bowl 2029: Nashville one of the favorites

Nashville is explicitly bidding to host Super Bowl LXIII, which will be played in February 2029. The reason for this date is simple: it is the earliest possible date on which the city can host the game.

The next three finals are already assigned to the locations San Francisco, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

Construction on the new Nissan Stadium has been underway for just over a year. The project is scheduled to open in time for the Tennessee Titans’ 2027 season, with the first year to be used to resolve any issues. Nashville then hopes to host the Super Bowl in the second season.

According to “CBS”, the project has a good chance of success. Nashville, along with Las Vegas, is one of the favorites to host the final game. If “Music City” does not get the nod in 2029, it will almost certainly be allowed to host the Super Bowl shortly thereafter.

Over the past 20 years, every city that has built a new stadium has hosted the Super Bowl at least once. Since 2005, nine stadiums have opened, including MetLife Stadium in New York and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Last May, Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about the chances of Nashville hosting the NFL’s biggest game one day. “I think a Super Bowl here would be very successful. But we’ll get to that when we’re a little further along with the stadium.”
