The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly fired their general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, even though his contract was extended during the last offseason.

According to The Athletic, the Minnesota Vikings have fired general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah after a disappointing 9-8 season. The 44-year-old had only extended his contract with the NFL franchise in May.

He had been active as GM in Minnesota since 2022. Prior to that, he worked for the San Francisco 49ers for a long time.

The report mentions that there were differing views on trades and free agency signings for the upcoming offseason. In addition to head coach Kevin O’Connell, there is now said to be a new strong voice in the franchise.

Various reasons for Adofo-Mensah’s departure

The choices made in past drafts are also said to have played a major role in the decision. In four years, Minnesota has only acquired four players who have established themselves as starters. The owners are likely expecting a higher standard.

Under Adofo-Mensah’s leadership, there were various approaches to a successful future. After experienced quarterbacks such as Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold, the team recently put its faith in young J.J. McCarthy. Nevertheless, they missed the playoffs.
