NFL – Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs arrested

Nate Hobbs, cornerback for the Las Vegas Raiders, was arrested in Las Vegas after the win at the Indianapolis Colts. He is accused of driving under the influence of drugs.

Munich/Las Vegas – Sporting things have been going well for the Las Vegas Raiders lately with three wins in a row. Off the field, however, there have always been glitches and sideshows.

This week, another one was added. Rookie cornerback Nate Hobbs, 22, was arrested Monday for driving under the influence of drugs after a key away win at the Indianapolis Colts (23-20).

Sleep driving

The Las Vegas Police Department found the passport defender in a south Vegas car park around four a.m. local time.Passersby had called police when they noticed a man with both hands on the steering wheel appearing to be unconscious. It turned out that Hobbs had fallen asleep.

Hobbs failed the subsequent drug test, so he was arrested on suspicion of Driving under Influence.

The Raiders commented on the incident the same day: “We are aware of the incident involving our player. We are working closely with the authorities and are first trying to gather more information before making any further statements,” according to the Raiders’ website.

Not the first incident involving the Raiders

The incident involving Hobbs is far from the first of its kind for the Las Vegas Raiders. Just earlier this season, former first round pick Henry Ruggs caused an accident while under the influence of alcohol. His opponent in the accident died and he faces up to 50 years in prison.

During the 2020 season there was a minor car collision involving running back Josh Jacobs, he too was found to be using banned substances. No one was injured in the incident, however.

Whether Hobbs, who is one of the Raiders’ best pass defenders this season, will be part of the Raiders’ squad for the all-important playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers is still open.
