At a media roundtable on Wednesday, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t want to talk about his still-quarterback Baker Mayfield. Instead, he chatted at length about his new playmaker, Deshaun Watson.
Munich/Cleveland – The chapter Baker Mayfield is probably finally closed for the Cleveland Browns.
After head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about his still-quarterback at Wednesday’s mandatory press conference, the head coach was short.
Stefanski: “Have nothing to say about it “
“It’s a unique situation with him,” Stefanski said when asked why Mayfield was not present at voluntary workouts. “We’re trying to solve that problem every day.” A definitive answer to the question looks different.
Shortly after, he was asked for his reaction to Mayfield’s comments accusing the Browns of disrespect. “I don’t have anything to say about that,” Stefanski blocked, reiterating, “It’s a unique situation and we’re all going to work to resolve it. “
The 39-year-old had considerably more to say about Deshaun Watson, the Browns’ designated quarterback. But there was no update on him either regarding the 22 civil lawsuits still hanging over him. “If we have any new information, we’ll get it to you guys already,” Stefanski said.
Watson and Stefanski: The “connection” is being sought
At the launch of the voluntary offseaon programmes, known as OTAs, Deshaun Watson was also at the start. The former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator wants to work hard with him. “With your quarterback, you want to have a connection,” Stefanski said.
In doing so, Watson has to be prepared for a new offensive alignment. “Deshaun is very open, listens to me and also tries things he hasn’t done before,” the head coach explains. “He wants to continue to grow as a player, that’s my feeling.”
The longer Stefanski talked about Watson, the better his mood became. “That’s the beauty of spring, isn’t it? It’s kind of like a lab. You try things out and see if they work together,” Stefanski continued.
Finally, the 39-year-old set the agenda for the coming weeks: “We’re concentrating on what’s in front of us. That’s why we are all professionals. “
Possibly a slight dig at Baker Mayfield, who, as should be clear by now, is not part of the Browns future.
