NFL – Kansas City Chiefs: Will “Unicorn” Travis Kelce find the extra gear in 2024?

Travis Kelce is under contract with the Kansas City Chiefs until 2025. How long will the 34-year-old continue to perform at this high level?

Travis Kelce will be 35 years old next season. It’s no secret that a tight end that age is in the fall of his career.

After signing his new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce is under contract with the Super Bowl winner through the 2025 season.

He would then be 36.

Nevertheless, the superstar still delivers regularly in collaboration with his congenial partner Patrick Mahomes.2023 Kelce caught 93 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games in the regular season. In the playoffs, he caught 32 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns in four games.

Kelce has now caught 907 passes for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns in eleven NFL seasons. In 22 postseason games, he has 1,903 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Kelce: Every now and then there are outliers

“Every once in a while there are outliers, and Travis is certainly one of those players,” general manager Brett Veach said when asked how long Kelce can keep playing like this. “Today we had a chance to go into Phase 2 [of the offseason program], and guys were running around out there, and Travis was the first one in line, and he looked like he was 28 years old.”

The likelihood of someone playing that far into his thirties is very slim, but it happens, Veach said, “and it only happens with unicorns on this job, and Travis is one of them. We’re certainly going to celebrate this with him and hopefully we can ride this thing longer,” Veach said.

You’ll just have to wait and see, the Chiefs GM said. “But I haven’t seen any signs of [Kelce] slowing down, and everybody notices the kind of postseason he’s had. He just found that extra gear, and those special players are always able to find that extra gear. If anybody can do that, it’s Travis. “
