NFL – Kansas City Chiefs: Retirement? Travis Kelce outlines his plans for the future

Travis Kelce is already in his 13th season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He has a clear plan for the future.

Will he continue? Or not? Travis Kelce is now in his 13th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs. He has now made it clear to US reporters that he will only decide on his future after the season. Importantly, he wants to make his decision early enough to give his franchise enough time. The new league year officially begins on March 11, which also marks the start of free agency. However, teams can talk to potential free agents before then. Plans for the draft at the end of April are also in full swing during this time.
Kelce said he appreciated how his brother Jason Kelce retired after 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles. On March 4, 2024, Jason announced that he would not be continuing to play, which gave his team enough time to put together the roster for the next season.

Brother Jason Kelce as a role model

“Seeing how my brother went through this, and looking at how the league works… I want to give the Chiefs a good chance, whether I come back or not, and vice versa,” said the 36-year-old, whose contract expires after the current season.

The tight end added: “This is one of those decisions I’d like to make before the draft picks and free agency start, so they can look around and fill out the roster accordingly. All of that will happen after the season. Until then, I’m not going to worry about it.”

After last season, when the Chiefs lost to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, many observers believed Kelce would retire. But the veteran quickly made it clear that he had no such intentions.

Kelce enjoys his work

How the rest of the season goes for the Chiefs, who are otherwise so accustomed to success, is likely to play a role in his decision. Currently, the team has a record of only 5-5 and could even miss the playoffs.

The next big challenge awaits on Sunday in the form of the powerful Indianapolis Colts. “I don’t think it’s a question of effort. It’s all about execution,” Kelce emphasized. “We’re here every day, working hard to improve. You can feel it with the coaches. They’re tightening things up a bit so we can focus on the details and play fast and purposefully.”

Kelce made it clear that he continues to enjoy his work: “I look forward to coming here every day. There’s still a chance. I’m fighting. I think this season is different from any other I can remember. That means every day is a new challenge, and I love that.”
