Travis Kelce is considering retirement after the Super Bowl defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Kansas City Chiefs have apparently now set him a deadline by which he must decide.
Did Travis Kelce play his last NFL game in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans? In the crushing 22-40 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which was much clearer than the final score shows, the tight end was one of the tragic figures on the Kansas City Chiefs side.
The 35-year-old dropped two balls, one of which he should have caught. The big game was a microcosm of a season that was largely disappointing for Kelce. Which is why he still doesn’t know what’s going to happen next.
In the podcast “New Heights,” which he runs with his brother Jason, Travis explained that he hasn’t made a decision yet. At the moment, “I’m just putting everything off,” said Kelce.
However, the three-time Super Bowl winner cannot wait forever to make a decision. As “The Athletic” reports, the Kansas City Chiefs have set their star player a deadline by which a decision must be made.
Kelce should decide by March 14
Accordingly, the franchise wants Kelce to decide by March 14 whether he will continue his career or retire. One day later, Kelce would collect a roster bonus of $11.5 million.
Which is not to say that the Chiefs wouldn’t be willing to pay him some or all of the amount as a form of recognition. However, it would also be important for contract negotiations to know what Kelce is planning.
If the Chiefs had beaten the Eagles, the partner of pop star Taylor Swift would probably have already ridden off into the sunset, but the historic “three-peat” was denied to him and his teammates.
Team mate Charles Omenihu had already asked Kelce via Fox to continue his career. “My message to him would be: ‘Hey kid, we can’t stop like this,’” said Omenihu.
