Jerod Mayo is not without controversy as head coach of the New England Patriots. The remaining games of the season will likely determine his future.
Jerod Mayo will likely fight for his job as head coach of the New England Patriots in the remaining four games.
As the Boston Sports Journal reports, the 38-year-old is anything but firmly in the saddle with the Pats. Mayo took over from head coaching legend Bill Belichick in January of this year, but has so far disappointed in Foxborough.
With a record of 3-10, New England is in last place in the AFC East after week 14. So far, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has stuck by Mayo, but that could change, according to the report.
“If Kraft comes to the realization that he made the wrong choice with Mayo, he won’t hesitate to rectify the situation,” the report says, citing sources close to the franchise.
At the end of the season, Mayo and the Pats still have games against the Arizona Cardinals, the Buffalo Bills, the Los Angeles Chargers and, to finish, the Bills again.
Patriots: Belichick will not return
A remaining program that is particularly tough with the two games against the Bills. Depending on how the Patriots perform in these games, the future of Mayo will likely be decided.
However, a return of Belichick is not an option. The former Patriots coach has probably found a new coaching job.
