NFL: Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones getting closer to comeback

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones is closing in on his comeback after tearing his Achilles tendon

Quarterback Daniel Jones of the Indianapolis Colts is getting closer to a comeback four months after tearing his Achilles tendon.

As his head coach Shane Steichen announced on Tuesday, the 28-year-old has recently returned to the field, where he is practicing dropbacks and is already throwing again. Daniels, however, was missing the start of offseason workouts on Monday.

“He’s done a heck of a job in his rehab,” Steichen said. “He’s working tirelessly at it. He’s here every day, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. I know he’s trying to reach certain milestones, and he’s on a very good path to get there,” the coach said.

The Colts have communicated throughout the offseason that they expect Jones to be ready for the start of the season. To ensure that, Streichen sought advice from Brad Stevens, the Boston Celtics’ president of basketball operations.

Jayson Tatum, the star of the Celtics, also suffered a torn Achilles tendon last year and was back on the court around ten months later. But he worked hard every day on his comeback. “Daniel is the same. These guys know how to approach rehab properly and I think Daniel is doing it just right. The fact that he’s already throwing again is pretty impressive,” Steichen said.

Daniels joined the Colts in 2025 and led the team to an impressive 6-1 start. When he got injured, the Colts were in a promising position for the playoffs with an 8-5 record. But without their quarterback, they lost their final four games of the season and missed the postseason.

In the offseason, Daniels signed a hefty two-year, $88 million extension in Indianapolis.
