NFL: Former Head Coach Urban Meyer Loses Lawsuit Against the Jacksonville Jaguars

Former Head Coach Urban Meyer has lost his lawsuit against the Jacksonville Jaguars in court.

According to “On3.com,” former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has lost his legal battle against the NFL franchise.

The 61-year-old had sued the Jaguars and owner Shad Khan for $30 million in unpaid wages following his dismissal. He also sought to challenge the termination, which he believed was not based on “just cause.”

Had Meyer been able to convince a judge that he was fired without “just cause,” the Jaguars would have had to pay him the full $30 million.

However, his lawsuit was unsuccessful. An independent arbitrator interviewed Meyer, former players, and the former general manager—and ruled that the dismissal was based on “good cause.”

Lambo still has a pending case against Meyer

On December 16, 2021, Meyer was fired by the Jaguars—after an 11-month tenure and a 2-11 record. This was compounded by several off-field incidents and an allegation by kicker Josh Lambo that the head coach had kicked him in the leg while he was stretching during warm-ups before the final preseason game.

In May 2022, the kicker filed a lawsuit against his former coach. Among other things, the lawsuit alleged that Meyer had created a hostile work environment—and that the Jaguars had done nothing to address it.

Although Lambo has since withdrawn his claims against the Jaguars, the case against Meyer is still pending.

The 61-year-old currently works as a college football analyst for “Fox Sports”.
