The Jacksonville Jaguars look back on a decade of failures. But new coach Doug Pederson doesn’t want to dwell on the franchise’s past at all and instead wants to tackle.
Munich – Aside from the 2017 season in which the Jacksonville Jaguars made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, the franchise has had a decade of failure.
In each of the past four seasons, the team finished last in the AFC South and never had more than six wins in a season. This is now set to change under new head coach Doug Pederson.
In his previous job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Peterson had a record of 42 wins with 37 losses and one draw. The highlight of his career was a Super Bowl win over Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in February 2018.
Doug Pederson doesn’t care about Jaguars past
With the Jaguars, he now faces a particularly difficult challenge. But the 54-year-old is not worried about his past failures, as he explained at a press conference.
“It’s hard for me to talk about what went wrong or what’s currently wrong or whatever. I don’t know, honestly, and I don’t care,” the coach said. “What I care about is that since I was hired a fortnight ago, we’ve been progressing. That’s what we’re trying to change. That’s what I’m trying to change. I’m trying to turn this into a successful programme and a successful organisation.”
He continued, “Do you learn from the past? Yes, of course. You study it. But at the same time, I’ve always focused on looking forward in everything we do.”
One of the most important aspects of his work in Jacksonville may well be mentoring former No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence. The quarterback hasn’t been able to fulfil his potential enough in his rookie season.
