NFL: Dan Campbell reveals – Ex-Dolphins player always reeked of alcohol in practice

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell reveals in an interview that during his time with the Miami Dolphins, one player always reeked of alcohol in practice – and was still tolerated.

Munich/Detroit – Interesting revelation from Dan Campbell. In an interview with the “Detroit Free Press”, the head coach of the Detroit Lions provided a vivid example of how much the NFL is willing to tolerate with regard to players if they help their team win.

Campbell describes a time during his tenure with the Miami Dolphins when a player showed up for practice every day under the influence of alcohol. According to Campbell, the franchise accepted this because the player in question performed well.

Campbell: Dolphins game came to practice drunk

“I remember having a player in Miami who loved the ball,” Campbell said. “He was a dynamic football player, but he came in every day reeking of alcohol. He was probably on a binge for who knows how long, but my goodness, he loved football,” the 45-year-old said.

He continued: “But he showed up, didn’t miss any appointments, put in non-stop effort. You then find a way to make this guy work. I’m not saying we want guys like that, but he loved the ball and had success. And he’s still playing today, by the way. “

Who he was talking about, Campbell did not reveal. The current Lions coach was at Miami from 2010 to 2015, spending most of that time as tight ends coach, even serving as interim head coach at the end.
