NFL: Cincinnati Bengals “pub crawl” – game ball for fans

The Cincinnati Bengals celebrated their historic playoff win over the Las Vegas Raiders in style – and handed out game balls to fans as part of a “pub crawl”.

Munich – When a victory is celebrated in the NFL, the game ball is traditionally given as a bonus, to one or more deserving players as a rule.

For the Cincinnati Bengals, the tradition has been changed a bit, which is all too understandable given their historic 26-19 Wild Card Game win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Because the Bengals were celebrating their first playoff win in 31 years.

President’s Game Ball

That’s why Head Coach Zac Taylor announced that a game ball would go to Bengals President Mike Brown and his wife Nancy. They had taken over the team seven months after the last playoff win following the death of Brown’s father and predecessor, Paul Brown, and allowed Taylor the time to build a playoff team since signing on in 2019.

“The next one is a new tradition that we start today with our first playoff win,” Taylor said in the booth. And was referring to the fans.

The Head Coach continued, “It’s going to the City of Cincinnati and we’re going to hand this thing out tonight at bars all over Cincinnati and let the fans celebrate with us. From now on, the city will celebrate with us at every playoff game.”

And it wasn’t talk, as Taylor put words into action, as evidenced by videos. Players also went out to celebrate with the fans, for example at “Walt’s Hitching Post” or the “Mount Lookout Tavern”.

And it may not have been the last Bengals celebration in these playoffs.
