NFL – Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow before contract restructuring?

Joe Burrow apparently subordinates a lot to the success of the Cincinnati Bengals. Even his own contract.

The success of the Cincinnati Bengals depends on hardly any other player as much as on NFL star Joe Burrow.

The playmaker is still Cincinnati’s franchise quarterback. Even though the team failed to make it to the Super Bowl this season as they had hoped, the Bengals’ window is far from closed for good.

Burrow knows this too, and is now doing everything he can to ensure that the franchise remains a Super Bowl contender in the coming season.

When asked if he would be willing to restructure his contract so that the Bengals would have more financial flexibility to keep their star players, Burrow told Fox, “Of course.”

“I believe that we have the financial ability to make these deals happen. I want to make it happen myself. Everyone involved wants us to stay together. When you have guys that are as motivated as this, I think you can accomplish a lot.”

Burrow setting the example

The teammates Burrow mentioned include star receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins and defensive end Trey Hendrickson.

Burrow summed it up: “Keeping every player we had available this season would be ideal.”

But for that to happen, the stars will all have to pull together. Burrow is the first to publicly speak out in favor of this and to say he would be willing to help the Bengals’ leaders by restructuring his contract.

It is not uncommon for contracts to be restructured in the NFL. The aim, in short, is to become more flexible in terms of money. The salary cap ensures that teams do not go overboard financially and throw money around.

Therefore, the contracts are restructured to comply with the cap for the upcoming season and the league start, or ideally to remain under the cap, so that there is still financial leeway for obligations or contract extensions.
