NFL: Bill Belichick apologises to journalists after loss to Indianapolis Colts

Bill Belichick was habitually curt at the press conference after the game against the Indianapolis Colts. He apologised for that afterwards.

Munich – Actually, one is not used to anything different from press conferences with Bill Belichick: Short answers, great respect for the opponent, a bit of sarcasm towards the journalists present and here and there a tired smile for the always same questions of the media.

After the defeat against the Indianapolis Colts, the appearance was accordingly typical. A short-tempered Belichick, who played the ball back to the reporters: “Maybe you know what went wrong. I don’t know,” the 69-year-old said, for example. So much for a classic “Grumpy Bill”.

Monday morning was anything but typical. According to “ESPN”, Belichick is said to have apologised for his appearance at the PK. “I’m sorry if I gave the impression of being short with you guys,” he is quoted as saying by Mike Reiss.

New England Patriots: Bill Belichick apologises

He was frustrated after the loss, but that was not the fault of the journalists, who were merely doing their job.

Without a particularly big freak-out or slip-up, the apology after what should have been an ordinary press conference comes as quite a surprise. The journalists should nevertheless be pleased with the soft tones of the usually grumpy head coach of the Patriots.

Now it remains to be seen in what mood he will present himself at the next media round.
