NFL: Baker Mayfield responds to OBJ father controversy – “Had man talk with him”

Baker Mayfield is being publicly exposed by the father of his receiver Odell Beckham Jr. At press conference, quarterback expresses surprise at recent developments.

Munich – Baker Mayfield addressed the curious video of Odell Beckham Sr, the father of receiver Odell Beckham Jr, at a press conference.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback was quite surprised by the issue and confirmed he had not yet heard from his colleague.

In said Instagram video, unflattering scenes of Mayfield are shown over a few minutes, allegedly intentionally overlooking OBJ.

“I had conversations with his dad, face to face, man to man. I was very surprised by the video and the intentions and the feelings behind it,” Mayfield admitted. At the same time, the playmaker placated the situation a bit. He said it was natural for the senior to want maximum success for his son. That is what Mayfield wants as well.

He also refused to close the door on a possible return of his ball catcher, who is currently on leave from training. “When he comes back, we’ll go through everything together. I can put my ego and pride aside to win. That’s all I care about. If he doesn’t come back, I’ll work with the guys I have available,” said the first pick of the 2018 draft class.

However, it does not currently look like a return. As Sports Illustrated writes, coach Kevin Stefanski has already told the team that OBJ is no longer a part of the team and won’t be for the time being. Beckham would have been told to stay home.

Browns: Mayfield had conversation with OBJ buddy Landry

Mayfield, then, has to turn his attention to his other receivers: He trusts them and they know he’s always there for them because he wants to embody that kind of quarterback. That includes Jarvis Landry.

He said he had a conversation with OBJ’s best friend, as he is known, about the incident, but did not go into detail. “I don’t want to draw a line between the two, I would never do that. Jarvis wants to win games as much as I do. Those are the kind of guys and focus we need here,” the signal-caller explained.

How the Browns now proceed with Beckham may be decided in the coming days. The trade deadline has passed, but many experts believe that OBJ has already played his last game for the franchise. Currently, his agent is in future talks with general manager Andrew Berry.
