New York Jets sure: Zach Wilson delivers – if active help is there

Quarterback Zach Wilson did not experience an easy rookie season with the New York Jets. General manager Joe Douglas is nevertheless fully convinced of the signal caller and believes in a successful future.

Munich – It was a year ago that the New York Jets used their No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft on quarterback Zach Wilson.

The signal caller played in 13 games as a starter last season – finishing with 2,334 passing yards, nine touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 69.7 passer rating.

Despite the mediocre numbers, it’s clear to the team’s general manager, Joe Douglas, that Wilson, with a little help, will be THE answer to the Big Apple’s years-long unanswered question of a franchise quarterback.

Jets GM praises Zach Wilson

“I see 100 percent greatness,” Douglas declared on “The Michael Kay Show. “I see a young quarterback who was really put through the wringer at the beginning of the year, and the most encouraging thing about Zach was that when he came back, he had maybe one turnover in the last six games. He took care of the football. He stuck to the game plan. “

And continued, “You really saw him take a step forward as the season went on after going through a lot of adversity early in the season, being injured, coming back and not having our top two receivers, Corey (Davis) and Elijah (Moore), and operating with a lot of skill position replacements, but still keeping the offense at a high level.”

According to the GM, the 22-year-old’s “resilience and stamina” in particular give him reason to hope for a successful future.

Jets need to get good receiver

But to make that possible, the Jets desperately need to improve their roster. Guard Laken Tomlinson and tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin have already been signed, but they still lack personnel at the receiver position, especially since Jamison Crowder left the team.

A signing of Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill was unsuccessful a few weeks ago, and now the franchise from the Big Apple could take a shot at departing 49ers pass receiver Deebo Samuel.

The draft should also be used at all costs. The Jets are allowed to pick four times inside the top 40, including at number four and number ten. It’s quite possible that a pass receiver will find his way to New York in the process.

GM Douglas will certainly be looking to get help for Zach Wilson on the team.
