New York Jets: Signing of Odell Beckham Jr. apparently fell through by a hair’s breadth

The New York Jets were apparently on the verge of signing Odell Beckham Jr. in their search for reinforcements in the passing game, according to Jets cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. OBJ, however, decided otherwise.

In an eventful offseason, the New York Jets secured the services of quarterback Aaron Rodgers via trade. In addition to numerous Pro Bowls, four MVP awards and a Super Bowl ring, the veteran probably had a player wish list in his luggage.

The Jets already got Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, who both played for the Green Bay Packers last season. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was also reportedly on the roster. This was reported by “ESPN”.

According to Jets cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, now buddies with new quarterback Rodgers, a commitment fell just a hair short. “He wanted to play for us. It got to the point where he picked a jersey number,” Gardner said in an interview with Sports Illustrated.”

OBJ joins Baltimore Ravens

Why the deal was not completed is unclear. A few weeks ago, “OBJ” signed with the Baltimore Ravens instead. Head coach John Harbaugh’s team outfitted the 30-year-old with a one-year deal that could put as much as $18 million in his coffers, 15 of which is guaranteed.

Odell Beckham Jr. started his career with the New York Giants, then played for the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams. He did not play last season due to injury. So far he has caught 531 passes for 7367 yards and 89 touchdowns.
