New York Jets: General Manager Joe Douglas doesn’t want to give up on Zach Wilson just yet.

The era of quarterback Zach Wilson with the New York Jets is already over before it has really begun. At least, if most experts have their way. General manager Joe Douglas, however, doesn’t want to give up on Wilson just yet. He also talks about Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers.

The New York Jets are looking for a new quarterback. That’s no secret from league circles.

However, that doesn’t mean the Jets have given up on Zach Wilson. The second pick of the 2021 NFL Draft is still highly rated in the “Big Apple. “

GM Douglas: “Zach will still unleash his potential “

General manager Joe Douglas confirmed as much at his press conference on the sidelines of the NFL Scouting Combine.

“Our position on Zach hasn’t changed. Obviously, the last two years haven’t gone the way we all hoped they would, but we still see great potential in Zach,” Douglas explained.

“When players work hard and get everything out of themselves, they usually reach their potential. And we firmly believe that Zach will fulfil his potential,” the 46-year-old concluded his plea for the heavily criticised Wilson.

Search for new QB still underway: eyeing Carr and Rodgers

Douglas had even greater praise than for Wilson for a quarterback who hasn’t even played for the Jets (yet): Derek Carr.

“He’s been fantastic,” the GM raves about meeting the playmaker. “He produces at the very highest level, he’s incredibly intelligent and has a very competitive mindset. “

According to regulations, Douglas was only allowed to speak so openly about Carr because he is the only quarterback currently out of contract. However, he was also asked about Aaron Rodgers, who has been linked to the Jets.

Although Douglas dodged all questions about the Packers quarterback as best he could, he still said, “We don’t have a timetable for a decision. Obviously, we’d like to decide it as early as possible, but everybody has their own timetable.” With that, Douglas alluded to the retirement thoughts of “ARod.”

When the Jets will decide on their playmaker for next season is still completely open. The only thing that is really certain is that it will be Zach Wilson, which is becoming less likely with each passing day.
