New York Jets: Aaron Rodgers dampens hopes despite possible return from injured reserve list

Aaron Rodgers is undergoing a lightning rehab after his serious injury. However, the star quarterback himself dampened hopes of an imminent comeback.

Will he play again in the 2023 season? Or will he not play again? This question has been asked again and again over the past few weeks in relation to Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The answer to that question is not far off.

The franchise from the Big Apple has until Wednesday to get A-Rod off the Injured Reserve list. If he is not activated by then, he will no longer be able to play in the 2023 season.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, it’s “likely that Rodgers will be medically cleared to play next week. “

However, the star quarterback himself dampened fans’ hopes of an imminent return to game action.

As a guest on the “Pat McAfee Show”, Rodgers emphasized that if he was at 100 percent, he would push to come back. But he is not there yet. “It’s not realistic to be 100 percent recovered in 14 weeks,” the four-time MVP emphasized.

Jets officials likely to disagree on timing of Rodgers’ return

Some of the franchise’s decision-makers would have preferred to keep Rodgers out of the firing line until next season anyway out of an abundance of caution

But: Nobody wants to slow down the hard work the 40-year-old has put in during his exceptionally quick rehab to make a comeback. The quarterback’s desire to play again as soon as possible is obviously respected

Jets out of playoff race after loss to Dolphins

However, the Jets’ game against the Dolphins in Week 15 was another damper.

After going 13-34 against their division rivals from the AFC East, the team is already out of the playoff race with a 5-9 record three game days before the end of the season, as the Cleveland Browns have also won against the Chicago Bears, the Houston Texans against the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills against the Dallas Cowboys.

Thus, activating Rodgers without a chance at the postseason hasn’t exactly become more likely.

Rodgers with extremely quick rehab

The playmaker tore his Achilles tendon on just the fourth play of the first game of the season and subsequently underwent a lightning rehab that was unprecedented for such a serious injury.

Rodgers trained hard last week and left an “unbelievable” impression on his head coach Robert Saleh: “Everything looks normal to me.”

If this is the case and Rodgers is called up to the squad again, it does not necessarily mean he will play against the Washington Commanders next Sunday.

According to the NFL Network, talks should take place on Monday and Tuesday to come to a final decision. So it remains exciting
