In the NFL Draft, the Patriots trade up with the Steelers in the first round. According to an unnamed general manager, Patriots GM Bill Belichick did so only to annoy the New York Jets
Suspenseful statements from an anonymous NFL general manager speaking to the “Washington Post”.
According to the unnamed GM, Bill Belichick, in his position as general manager of the New England Patriots, pulled off a trade at the NFL Draft on low terms, only to have an opponent not get a player.
“Belichick did it just to get one over on the Jets. He sold out cheap because he knew the Steelers were going to take the kid the Jets were going to take,” he said.
All because of Broderick Jones
According to the report, the head coach allegedly settled on an inferior trade consideration for the Pats to allow the Steelers to jump from pick 17 to 14 and draft offensive tackle Broderick Jones, who was desired by the Jets.
And continued, “Bill is going to try to screw them over every chance he gets. He knew exactly what he was doing.”
To draft upward, the Steelers paid with a fourth-round pick. According to the report, however, the Patriots could have gotten a third-round pick from another team.
