Drug tests are part of the standard programme of every NFL professional. Patriots star Matthew Judon can only shake his head at the number of tests he’s been subjected to himself

Munich – It’s a normal part of an NFL pro’s season: drug tests. At irregular intervals, the best football league in the world tests its players for the use of illegal substances.

As a rule, each player has to stand by for this around five times per season. One player who is apparently called upon by the inspectors much more frequently is Matthew Judon. The New England Patriots outside linebacker has now raised the issue himself in front of reporters, having previously posted on Twitter a recent invitation to be checked again.

“There’s nothing in my body, so we’re fine. I don’t like it, but it really doesn’t matter, does it?” he complained about all the testing. The 30-year-old, for example, explained that he was forced to undergo tests significantly more often than other colleagues.

“There’s nothing I can do. If I don’t do it, I’m going to get in trouble. So I’m just going to cry and take it,” the linebacker further worded.

By the way, Judon could not say exactly how many times he has already been tested. According to his estimate, however, there have already been eight to ten tests this season alone.

Matthew Judon takes it with humour

Despite his annoyance, the Pats pro takes the issue with humour. “The NFL does these tests and they are random, after all. I don’t think they have that many people with last names that start with J. I don’t know. So I guess mine gets called all the time.”

Judon joined the Patriots in March last year, signing a four-year, $56 million contract. He finished his first season directly with a personal best in sacks. It is not known whether he will be tested more frequently because of his improved performance.
