In the alleged rift between head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Mac Jones at the New England Patriots, another teammate, linebacker Josh Uche, is backing up the playmaker.
Mac Jones is getting public backing from a teammate after recent tough times.
Josh Uche spoke in an interview with “NBC” about the current situation of his quarterback, who is said to have been offered for trade by Bill Belichick, head coach of the New England Patriots, to several teams at once.
The linebacker was consistently positive about the playmaker: “I love Mac. He’s a competitor. Someone I went to war with and trained with. I’ve seen his work ethic and his toughness. […] He’s our quarterback.”
But the 24-year-old also admitted that the decision on Jones’ future was not up to him: “At the end of the day, Bill Belichick decides what’s best for the team. My job is to play. “
It’s not just Uche speaking out for Jones
In addition to Uche, other current and former Patriots have thrown their support behind the quarterback in recent days.
Among them is club legend Devin McCourty, who finished his career after the past season.
The alleged reason for Belichick’s dislike of his quarterback is that the latter sought outside help after the mixed season, which the 70-year-old apparently perceived as disloyalty.
