In the Netflix series “Quarterback”, Patrick Mahomes talks about being friendly with opposing defenders so as not to give them extra motivation. Veteran star Calais Campbell thinks that’s the right approach and names a quarterback who has yet to learn that lesson.
Calais Campbell has confirmed Patrick Mahomes’ theory from the Netflix series “Quarterback” that kindness in dealing with opposing defenders helps in avoiding sacks.
The 36-year-old told “ESPN”: “Quarterbacks are smart. They know you don’t want to make some guys mad.”
According to the pass rusher, there is one playmaker in particular who has yet to learn that lesson.
Mac Jones, quarterback of the New England Patriots, was “kind of disrespectful” with his “trash TalK” , the veteran said, according to The Athletic.
While former Los Angeles Chargers playmaker Philip Rivers did a lot of trash-talking with his opponents, he never crossed the line.
Jones, on the other hand, had taken it to the point that Campbell had actually felt provoked. It was “trash talk at the highest level”.
Campbell causes Jones injury
Campbell and Jones have met only once before. Last season, when Campbell was out with the Baltimore Ravens to beat Jones’ Patriots in week three.
In the process, the pass rusher came on a quarterback hit that knocked Jones out cold for a month with an ankle injury.
Several complaints about Jones
It’s not the first time opposing defenders have expressed their dislike for the 24-year-old.
Brian Burns of the Carolina Panthers had called a “merry chase” during the playmaker’s rookie season in 2021 after he grabbed the defensive end’s ankle just as he picked up a fumble from Jones.
Last season, Jaquan Brisker also accused the quarterback of an unfair play after a play by his Chicago Bears against New England.
Jones 2022 with problems
During the play, Jones had gone for a slide on a running play but lifted a leg and hit Brisker full force between the legs.
Considering the problems Jones has had in his second year in the NFL, it might be wise for the 24-year-old not to give his opponents any additional motivation.
