The New England Patriots’ crisis is getting worse after the debacle in Frankfurt. Franchise legend Tom Brady has now spoken about the situation of his former team in his podcast
Tom Brady has won five Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots in his career. Since his departure in 2020, however, things have not been going well for the once successful franchise. There are many reasons for this.
In his “Let’s Go” podcast, the 46-year-old has now spoken about the crisis at the Patriots and defended head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Mac Jones a little.
“I think the Patriots are having a tough time right now and they’re not playing with the confidence they’ve always had. I don’t think Coach Belichick is coaching any differently now than when we were undefeated,” said the “GOAT”.
He continued: “When you lose, the whole organization loses, the fan base loses, everyone is in the same boat. And it’s hard to get it right. And when you get it right, you should really appreciate it, especially in the NFL. “
Patriots fans are blaming the Pats’ recent slump on the poor performance of quarterback Mac Jones. According to Brady, however, you can’t “point the finger at just one person” at the moment.
“You can’t have everyone on the bus when you’re winning and off the bus when you’re losing,” explains the former sixth-round pick.
Gronkowski with advice for Mac Jones
Brady’s former teammate and good friend Rob Gronkowski also jumped to Mac Jones’ side recently and gave the 25-year-old some advice on the “Up and Adams Show”: “I think Mac Jones should just ask for his release. And if he’s granted it, he should sign with the Cleveland Browns and restart his career […] imagine that, Kay? How incredible would that be?”
“He’s not respected in New England. Coach Belichick has played all these games with him. Bailey Zappe is not even close to the level of Mac Jones. You should never bench Mac Jones […] he’s just not respected there,” Gronkowski said.
Jones joined the Patriots as the 15th pick in the 2021 draft and impressed in his rookie season, showing good promise. Last season and this season, the hoped-for development failed to materialize.
It is unclear whether Jones will continue to be a starter for the New England Patriots after the bye week. Head coach Bill Belichick, who has also been heavily criticized, did not want to commit himself after the 6:10 defeat in Frankfurt against the Indianapolis Colts.
