Mac Jones has made “tremendous progress” in all areas compared to last season. At least that’s what New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick says, speaking highly of his quarterback
Munich – Bill Belichick spoke at length about his quarterback Mac Jones in an “NBC” interview. The New England Patriots head coach was interviewed by Patriots insider Phil Perry.
First and foremost, Belichick made it clear that the young quarterback will continue to be the lynchpin of New England’s game. “He’s definitely going to have his input on our offensive game,” the head-coach legend indicated.
Jones having decent rookie season
Jones was drafted 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Patriots and delivered decently in his rookie season. 3801 passing yards and 22 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. In his first season, the 23-year-old had a quarterback rating of 92.5.
“In all areas, I think there’s a dramatic improvement… he’s starting from a much, much higher point this year.”

There is still plenty of room for improvement in New England’s long-term project – as his coach knows best. Jones has apparently already taken a big step towards that over the summer. “He improved exceptionally in the offseason,” Belichick praised his protege.
Belichick speaks of “tremendous progress “
“Whether it’s his physicality, conditioning, his throwing mechanics, his footwork or his understanding of our offense and defense…. He’s made tremendous strides,” Belichick stated.
But the iconic coach was also pleased with the playmaker last season. “He did a fantastic job last year too, but this time he’s starting from an even higher spot. “
Better Jones – better Patriots?
Most notably, Jones has obviously improved in the tactical area. “The plays and concepts that we’re talking about, Mac has done all of that,” Belichick praised. Jones seems to have gained a better understanding of those things.
Last season, Jones, Belichick and Co. were finished in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, when they lost to the Buffalo Bills by a clear 17:47. With a “much improved” Mac Jones, the “Pats” could attack the top again this year.
