Tyreek Hill isn’t holding back on Miami Dolphins rookie Eli Apple. The star receiver jokes about his former foe.
Tyreek Hill and Eli Apple have had a verbal spat or two in the past. Those who believed that this feud was over because Apple has now signed with the Dolphins are mistaken.
Because the fact that the two now play in the same team did not stop Hill, at least, from getting one over on his former adversary – even if only with a wink.
“From now on I can embarrass him every day,” Hill joked to “NFL.com” about his new teammate.
Due to the absence of star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the Dolphins unceremoniously signed Apple. The 27-year-old pass defender was last under contract with the Cincinnati Bengals – in Miami he will receive a one-year contract.
That Hill didn’t completely mean the verbal sideswipe is shown by the star receiver’s other statements. He said that people were reading too much into the pair’s social media beef.
“I feel like a lot of people only believe what’s on social media. And that’s not really what it is,” Hill said. “I was happy that we were able to get him on the team. Because it makes us better in the long run because we have that cornerback depth. Eli is a great guy. I know we’ve had some struggles, but at the end of the day, we all want to win. We’re all trying to get better. “
Dolphins coach McDaniel asks Hill about Apple
Before committing, even Miami head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to Hill about Apple and the beef between the two. Hill affirmed that the issues are set aside for now.
“When I heard about it, Coach called me,” Hill said. “He said, ‘Hey, Reek, we want to sign somebody.’ I said, ‘Who do you guys want to sign?’ He said, ‘We want to sign Eli Apple.’ I said, ‘Well, cool.’ He said, ‘You don’t have a problem with that?’ I said, ‘No, I don’t have a problem with it. Why would I have a problem with that?'”
That settled the matter for McDaniel, too, and the Apple commitment was just a formality.
Tyreek Hill vs Eli Apple? Trashtalk continues
But for all the love, the trashtalk still goes on, even the coach is aware of that. “Both sides know that if you let the other side win, you’re going to get in each other’s hair,” McDaniel said of the Hill-Apple duel in training.
The first stone has now been cast, at least once, by the wide receiver. It’s only a matter of time before the cornerback responds.
