The Miami Dolphins were considered a possible landing spot for Lamar Jackson for a long time. Now the franchise from the southeastern US is apparently out of the running for the star quarterback, who was franchise tagged by the Baltimore Ravens
The Miami Dolphins were considered a possible landing spot for Lamar Jackson for a long time. But even though the star quarterback has now been assigned the non-exclusive franchise tag by the Baltimore Ravens and is thus still allowed to negotiate with other teams, the Dolphins are apparently out of the running.
As per a report from “ESPN,” the Dolphins now have no interest in signing Jackson.
McDaniel: “Tua is a perfect fit for the system “
The main reason for this is Head Coach Mike McDaniel, who says of his current starting quarterback that Tua Tagovailoa “fits the system perfectly”.
Tagovailoa had to deal with head injuries several times last season and the future of the quarterback was questioned. But Miami seems to be convinced of the 25-year-old. After all, Tua is still on his rookie contract.
Two more teams likely to waive Jackson
In addition, the Dolphins do not own a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. However, to release Jackson from the non-exclusive franchise tag, Miami would have to give up two first-round picks to the Ravens. They would thus have to rid themselves of ample draft capital going forward.
At the same time, the decision not to sign Lamar probably means the Dolphins won’t bring another quarterback to Florida besides Jackson.
In addition to the Dolphins, the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers are also no longer in the running for Jackson, according to the report.
