Los Angeles Chargers: Mega fan Merrianne Do defends herself against fake allegations.

Merrianne Do became a national celebrity at MNF. All fake? The Chargers supporter is fighting back against the accusations.

Merrianne Do is special. That probably sums it up best. And now millions of Americans know that too.

Because Do was caught on TV cameras at the Monday Night Game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Dallas Cowboys. And the makers of ESPN had taken a liking to the Chargers fan.

Because Do is emotional. Very eccentric at that. Eccentric. A die-hard fan, some say. A self-promoter who completely exaggerates, others criticise.

Fact: She went viral after she was shown going along with every play like it was the Super Bowl, literally freaking out at Gerald Everett’s touchdown and being devastated after the 17:20.

Not a few fans suspected she had been paid to present herself like this. Others even speculated that she was inserted into the broadcast by an artificial intelligence.

All fake?

As crazy as Do was to follow along – the story wasn’t that wacky after all. Here’s what Do got to say on Tuesday’s “Pat McAfee Show.”

“I wish I could get paid. I wish I could make myself as beautiful as I want with AI, but at the end of the day, this is me, guys,” Do said.

“This is me. Crazy mother of four. Crazy Chargers fan. Crazy football fan,” she added. And explained that she’s made it onto the Chargers’ video ad before. She didn’t realise at first that she was getting her 15 minutes of fame on Monday night, even though her smartwatch was buzzing and someone even talked to her about it in the stadium.

But as a hardcore fan, Do first had to watch the game to the (bitter) end.

She cannot understand at all that many spectators doubt that she is actually a “normal” Chargers supporter. She has season tickets with her husband and also rents a box at some games.

She is not the only one who is surprised, as Do is also known as a dedicated supporter away from the NFL. “All the mums text me and say, ‘Why do people say you’re fake? Because that’s who you are in flag football. That’s how you are at football. That’s you at the basketball finals. That’s who you are.'”

The kids have to deal with it

Do responds humorously. “I thought, ‘Yeah, I guess my poor kids have to go through this every day,’ but now it’s crazy, it’s overwhelming that the whole world thinks it’s so different. My kids have been dealing with this their whole lives.”

Speaking of whole lives. Do revealed another little secret: Not only is she a Chargers fan, but she’s also a Minnesota Vikings supporter.

“I grew up in Minnesota before I moved to California almost 20 years ago,” Do told TMZ. “I don’t think you have to be a fan of one team. I love my Chargers and I’m not going to deny my Vikings.”

A supporter of two NFL teams at once? Merrianne Do is just special.
