Los Angeles Chargers defeat harmless New York Jets

The Los Angeles Chargers clinched an away win at the New York Jets at the end of the ninth matchday. Both defenses shone in particular.

The Los Angeles Chargers claimed a victory in the Monday Night Football game on the ninth matchday of the NFL. The Chargers won 27-6 away from home against the harmless New York Jets thanks to a brilliant performance by the defense.

Justin Herbert never got into the flow he is known for. He only completed 16 of his 30 passes and only gained 136 yards. His number of passing yards was in double digits until the fourth quarter. He was sacked five times and lost a fumble, just like his tight end Gerald Everett.

The touchdowns were scored by Austin Ekeler on two runs (14 in total for 47 yards) and Derius Davis on a punt return. The Chargers only had 76 total rushing yards, including scrambles.

Keenan Allen provided a milestone. With his 77 receiving yards, he surpassed the 10,000 career yards mark. Only Antonio Gates has more in Los Angeles Chargers history.

Zach Wilson despairs at the Chargers defense

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was unable to put the Chargers’ strong defense under pressure this evening. In total, he managed 33 completions (out of 49) for 263 yards. Although he did not cause an interception, he did cause three fumbles, two of which he lost. He was brought down eight times, with Joey Bosa alone responsible for two and a half sacks.

Despite having the best personnel, the running game did not get going. Only 64 yards came on the ground, just three yards per run. Breece Hall was the leading rusher with 50 yards, Dalvin Cook and Wilson (seven each) provided the remaining yards on the ground.

Garrett Wilson was the Jets’ leading receiver with 80 yards on seven catches. However, he also lost a fumble. He was thrown at 13 times.

In addition to Bosa, Tuli Tuipulotu also shone with two sacks. Khalil Mack also collected two sacks.

Both teams now have a 4-4 record. Next week, the Jets travel to the Las Vegas Raiders in the Sunday Night Game, while the Chargers take on the Detroit Lions at SoFi Stadium.
