For more than ten years Julian Edelman celebrated success under coach Bill Belichick with the Patriots. Now the wide receiver admits to still being afraid of the head coach today
Munich – Wide receiver Julian Edelman hasn’t played for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick since his retirement in the 2021 NFL offseason. But that doesn’t mean the Pats’ head coach is any less intimidating to Edelman.
On the “I Am Athlete” podcast, the athlete commented on the Patriots’ cult coach, mimicking the 70-year-old in detail, as he has done several times before. “I just saw him recently when I visited the team,” the former pass receiver explained.
“He’ll say things like, ‘Look, I got to turn on the damn TV and see you imitating me every damn day.’ That’s what he says to me and I’m sitting here like I’m on eggshells. I’m still scared of the guy and I don’t even play for him anymore,” Edelman said laughing.
Edelman has respect for Belichick
In addition, the 36-year-old talked about his visit to the New England booth. According to the story, he addressed Belichick in front of the team with the words, “Hey, Coach, it’s all out of love,” to which the coach replied, “Just shut up. “
A conversation that caused a good laugh in the Patriots’ locker room.
Edelman played twelve seasons for the Patriots under Belichick, and the receiver won the Super Bowl three times during that time.
