Jon Gruden resigns as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders

Jon Gruden draws consequences from the scandal surrounding him. In emails he had expressed racist, sexist and homophobic views. Now he is resigning as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Munich/Las Vegas – Jon Gruden is no longer head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a statement, the 58-year-old shared, “I love the Raiders. I don’t want to be a liability to the team. “

Jon Gruden: Old emails shock

Previously, the “New York Times” had published emails from Gruden’s past in which the coach had made racist, sexist and homophobic remarks.

According to ESPN, current assistant head coach and special teams coach Rich Bisaccia will serve as interim head coach for the time being.

Ten years ago, during the 2011 lockout, Gruden had sent an email to the then-president of the Washington football team. In it, Gruden wrote that the black president of the NFL Players Association, DeMaurice Smith, had “lips as big as Michelin tyres. “

Gruden criticises female referees

The news recently came to light during the NFL investigation into the Wahington football team and is available to the “Wall Street Journal.” Gruden apologised several times and stressed he was not racist. But things got even worse for the 58-year-old.

The New York Times published an article about further emails from Gruden from 2011 to 2018. According to the report, Gruden allegedly made derogatory comments about female referees, gay football pros and the anthem protest, among other things.
