Denver Broncos: Russell Wilson already has to prove himself in the preseason

After Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos have had a disappointing season, new head coach Sean Payton is leaving nothing to chance and has his top stars starting as early as the first preseason game

Russell Wilson experienced a real disaster season in his first season as quarterback of the Denver Broncos. The fact that the Broncos only managed to string together five wins for the season had a lot to do with the poor performance of the passer.

Now he has a new head coach at his side in Sean Payton, with whom Denver is supposed to get back on the road to success.

The coach’s new approach will already be evident in the preseason. Wilson will be in action in the Broncos’ first preseason game on 11 August against the Arizona Cardinals. The head coach announced this to the press on Saturday.

This is a real change for the star playmaker. In 2022, when he was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Broncos, he did not participate in a single preseason game for the Broncos.

This was the beginning of a disappointing season that ultimately led to the firing of head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Just over a month after the dismissal, Denver agreed to a deal with New Orleans to hire Payton as head coach of the Broncos.

Payton knows how to mould a successful team. He comes to Denver with a record of 152 wins to 89 losses and won the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints.
