The end of Russell Wilson’s tenure with the Denver Broncos appears to be a formality. But potential suitors aren’t necessarily lining up
The Denver Broncos are about to make a decision regarding their quarterback. Russell Wilson has been expected to leave the franchise for some time. He only sat on the bench in the last two games of the regular season and his house was recently put up for sale.
However, there doesn’t seem to be too much interest on the transfer market. When general manager George Paton was asked about potential suitors for the signal caller, he replied to US journalists: “You know, I haven’t heard from any teams. So we’ll see.”
Wilson is under contract with the Broncos for five more years. Should the franchise fail to find a trade partner, they are expected to release him to avoid having to pay him the $37 million in guaranteed money for 2025. Nevertheless, the cap would still be burdened with 89 million in this case.
Incidentally, Paton would not officially confirm whether the Broncos have already made a decision regarding Wilson. “Nothing has changed. We had to get our draft meetings over with. We had to meet with free agents and evaluate all that. Sean has to see all those quarterbacks, the coaches as well, until we make an informed decision. “
Russell Wilson came to Denver in 2022 as the great savior, but their time together turned out to be a misunderstanding.
