The Cleveland Browns would like to end the cooperation with Baker Mayfield, this has now been officially confirmed for the first time by head coach Kevin Stefanski. But at the moment Mayfield’s future is uncertain, the only fact is that it is not in Cleveland.

Munich/Cleveland – What has been an open secret for a long time is now the – from Baker Mayfield’s point of view sad – reality.

The 26-year-old will no longer play for the Cleveland Browns, Head Coach Kevin Stefanski now officially confirmed. He pretty much ruled out any possibility of a rethink.

Stefanski: “Everybody understands the situation “

“We hope to resolve the situation soon in the best interest of everyone,” Stefanski said at a media roundtable. “I think everyone understands the situation we are in,” he continued.

In any case, the situation the Browns are in is clear: Mayfield’s job as starter will be taken over by Deshaun Watson, in addition to bringing in Jacoby Brissett, another quarterback who has played as a starter in the NFL.

“The situation is unique. We’ll have to see how it plays out in the end. I think we all would have liked to have had clarity yesterday, but the reality is different now,” the 39-year-old said.

Even with Watson suspension: no future for Mayfield

While there were still faint hopes for Mayfield to possibly start after all should Deshaun Watson be suspended for his civil actions, his still-head coach now dashed those too.

“Until we know exactly what the league plans to do with Deshaun, it’s all hypothetical. We’ll see, but we have to be aware that we’re potentially going into the season with Jacoby (Brissett),” Stefanski revealed.

So even the number two role is not an option for Baker Mayfield in Cleveland.

Mayfield is guaranteed to earn around $18.6 million next season. Probably one reason why teams aren’t exactly lining up to secure the services of the former record holder for touchdown passes in a rookie season.

Unlikely that anything will change between now and the draft at the end of April.
