As feared, the NFL season is over prematurely for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones. As head coach Shane Steichen confirmed on Monday, the playmaker suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Sunday’s 19-36 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 28-year-old will require surgery and is therefore out for the rest of the season.
Jones, who had played his team’s last two games with a broken fibula, went down in the first quarter without any contact from an opponent. His season-ending injury is a bitter setback for the Colts in the race for the playoffs. After the defeat to the Jaguars, Indianapolis now has a record of 8-5 wins.
It is still unclear who will start at quarterback for the Colts on Sunday (10:25 p.m./RTL) against the Seahawks. According to coach Steichen, rookie Riley Leonard, who replaced Jones against the Jaguars, injured his right knee, and it is still unclear whether he will be able to play.
