The New York Jets have not yet signed Aaron Rodgers. But the mere interest of the quarterback is already a groundbreaking success for head coach Robert Saleh.
Twelve days have passed since Aaron Rodgers provided clarity on his future plans on the “Pat McAfee Show”.
“On Friday, I made the decision that I’m going to play next season – and I want to play for the Jets,” Rodgers had declared on said show on 15 March.
The quarterback also mentioned the existing problem: “I want to play for the Jets, but I’m still under contract with the Packers as well. “
Almost two weeks have passed since then, and absolutely nothing has happened in the meantime. Jets and Packers fans are still impatiently waiting for an official announcement.
Is the continued uncertainty causing worry lines among those affected?
Aaron Rodgers not yet signed
If you believe Allen Lazard, not in the least. The wide receiver has played alongside Rodgers in Green Bay since being drafted in 2018 and recently signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets.
In an interview with “TMZ”, he now explained that Rodgers was “a big reason” why he ended up with the club in the Big Apple. He has no fears that Rodgers could possibly sign with another team after all:
“I’m not worried. Especially because I know Aaron will play with full commitment for the New York Jets this year.”
Anyway, the pass receiver did not hold back on praising the passer, praising his passing skills and the energy he can bring to a team. That way, he said, A-Rod can “light a fire under everybody’s butt” and increase the chances of a Super Bowl win.
Saleh sees work of past two years vindicated
Meanwhile, the still-simmering uncertainty over the Rodgers trade also prompted head coach Robert Saleh to make some statements.
But at the league’s annual meeting, the 44-year-old focused more on the big picture in an “NFL Network” interview.
“Just thinking about how far we’ve come in the last two years,” he gushed when asked about Rodgers.
“For a guy like him to want to play for us is pretty cool and shows how far we’ve come. But we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do. “
Coach Robert Saleh praises team’s development
Two years ago, Saleh had taken over the Jets. A club that had its worst season since 1996 with a record of 2:14. In the previous season, meanwhile, they narrowly missed the playoffs.
With Rodgers, about whom Saleh was also unable to announce any news, the aim now is to finally make it into the postseason. If possible, even much more.
But for that to happen, the superstar must first be signed.
