Aaron Rodgers: Comeback in a “few weeks”? Quarterback rows back

Aaron Rodgers gives an update on his comeback plans. According to reports last Sunday, the New York Jets quarterback will probably not be back in a “few weeks.”

“Give me a few weeks.”

With this sentence to Derwin James after the game against the Los Angeles Chargers (6:27) last Monday, Aaron Rodgers raised hopes among New York Jets fans that he would be back on the field very soon.

On the “Pat McAfee Show” a day later, the quarterback, who tore his Achilles tendon on Sept. 12, rowed back: “It would be nice to be back in a couple weeks, but that’s probably not even close to a realistic timetable.”

The sentence to James, a “long-time friend”, “slipped out like that”: “I didn’t know the cameras would catch that.”

He said it “more as a joke”. Rodgers emphasized that there was no exact timetable – although it would “probably be more than a few weeks.”

Rodgers: Jets record plays role in comeback

What the Jets’ record looks like, whether they still have a shot at the playoffs when Rodgers is ready to return to the field, will play a role in his comeback considerations, albeit a minor one.

“We have to be in the fight [for the playoffs], that’s for sure. But that’s a very small part of the thought process at the moment. First I have to be healthy, be able to move and protect, be stable in the shot,” explained the 39-year-old.

Rodgers is “very happy” with his rehab so far: “Being on the pitch warming up, being with the lads, is balm for the soul after the hard work. “
