The image of NFL icon Brett Favre is suffering in the extreme! The former quarterback allegedly enriched himself on a million-dollar sum for the needy and apparently refuses to pay back the full amount.

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre was supposed to have made a lot of money in his career.

Apparently not enough. According to several US media reports, the 52-year-old allegedly enriched himself with a sum of millions that was supposed to go to the needy.

To be precise, it is about eight million dollars that were meant for the public aid programme “Temporary Assistance for Needy Families”.

The three-time NFL MVP (95-97) Favre allegedly stole the million-dollar sum from his home state of Mississippi, which is considered one of the poorest in the country.

According to the reports, Favre took the money to further finance his biotech company instead of giving the sum to the needy as planned. Some of it probably also ended up at the University of Southern Mississippi, reportedly five million dollars. This was allegedly used to build a new volleyball court for the “Golden Eagles” team.

Favre invests money differently than planned

Fandomly, the volleyball team where Favre’s daughter plays. Back in 2020, Favre was suspected of embezzlement when Mississippi Today reported on the case at the university. That year, $94 million was embezzled and several people were arrested.

Favre was allegedly involved even then. The former Green Bay Packers player denied the reports, claiming he did not know the money came from the scheme. But the evidence became more and more overwhelming.

He was ordered to pay back the money. He has already paid back 1.1 million. But Favre refuses to pay more, calling the demands disproportionate, totally excessive and harassing.

Will Favre lose his Hall of Fame status?

According to “Bleacher Report”, the Department of Assistance to Needy People has reportedly already contacted the relevant court 27 times that Favre should disclose his tax returns to make the case clearer.

It concerns the period between 2017 and 2020. The Hall of Famer could even lose his place in that in the worst case.
