Las Vegas Raiders: Running back Josh Jacobs defends himself against money allegations.

Josh Jacobs is cryptic about why he let the deadline slip on a long-term deal with the Raiders.

As of Monday night, the deadline has passed.

NFL professionals who have been franchise tagged can now no longer negotiate a long-term deal with their teams.

That includes Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders. Yet the running back apparently had hopes until the very end of signing a new long-term contract with the Nevada organisation.

According to Tom Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Jacobs was sitting in a car with teammate Maxx Crosby in the team’s car park at Monday’s deadline and was ready to sign a new contract.

Jacobs: “We never tried to change the market “

As Jacobs indicated via social media, this was not due to disagreements about the total volume of the contract, but rather a lack of “certainty”. He did not specify what exactly he meant by this. However, it can be assumed that he means the guaranteed amount of the contract offered. This is generally very low at Running Bucks.

“We never tried to change the market,” Jacobs wrote only.

The 25-year-old now only has the option of signing a one-year deal under terms of the franchise tag, which is $10.1 million for running backs, or negotiating another one-year deal with the Raiders.
