Washington Commanders: Dan Snyder may be refusing to interview investigators

The NFL has Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder under investigation for sexual assault and financial inconsistencies. But the owner is apparently refusing to face the questions.

New chapter surrounding the investigation into Washington Commanders and its still-owner Dan Snyder.

As the “Washington Post” reports, the 58-year-old has so far refused to be interviewed by lawyer Mary Jo White.

The former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and former chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission is leading the second NFL investigation into allegations of poor work culture and sexual assault within the club under Snyder’s leadership.

White has been investigating Snyder and the Commanders since February 2022. The NFL did not yet name a completion date for the investigation, but stressed it would make the findings public.

The extent to which the investigation can be concluded apparently also depends on Snyder’s behaviour and his refusals so far. However, the “Washington Post” expects White to make a further advance “in the course of the next month. “

Plaintiffs’ side accuses NFL of protecting Dan Snyder

On the plaintiffs’ side, the conduct of the Commanders boss caused outrage.

“It would be unthinkable for the NFL to allow Dan Snyder to avoid participating in a league-ordered investigation into his sexual assault and financial misconduct. Especially when a number of my clients have again made themselves available for such an investigation,” Lisa Banks stressed in a statement to the “Washington Post”.

The lawyer, along with fellow attorney Debra Katz, represents more than 40 former Commanders employees.

Much more, it speaks volumes “about the NFL’s continued protection of him, but also about his own mindset,” Banks elaborated.

“If Mr. Snyder truly has nothing to hide with respect to these allegations of harassment and financial improprieties, as he claims, he will not hesitate to participate in the NFL’s investigation and put forth any explanations or defenses he may have,” Banks said.

Cheerleader makes allegations

White’s investigation was launched after Tiffani Johnston, a former cheerleader and the team’s marketing manager, made allegations in February 2022 that Snyder harassed her at a team dinner, put his hand on her thigh and pushed her towards his limo.

Snyder denied the allegations at the time, calling them “pure lies. “

Investigations also into financial violations

In addition, allegations of financial improprieties involving Snyder and the team are also under investigation.

The Commanders and Snyder are accused of withholding up to five million dollars in refundable deposits from season ticket holders, as well as other funds that were to be divided among NFL owners.

Allegations had first surfaced here in House investigations, but Snyder had only testified there too after months of delaying tactics – and did so inadequately and “misleadingly”, according to the final report.
