For many artists, performing during the halftime show at the Super Bowl is considered the ultimate. For US superstar Pink, performing is out of the question, with the singer instead voicing some juicy criticism.
It’s the biggest single sporting event in the world: the Super Bowl. In addition to the sporting clash between two NFL teams, every year the halftime show is also the centre of attention.
Which artists are allowed to perform? How spectacular will the performance be?
One who already knows for sure that she will not be part of the halftime show in the future is singer Pink. On the sidelines of a concert in London, the US superstar explained the reason for her stance to the “Deutsche Presse-Agentur”.
“I feel like the halftime show has become about everyone in the country and the world shitting on the artists, tearing them apart and criticising them to the extreme. Why not just come to a show and enjoy the time?” the 43-year-old said.
By her own admission, Pink was asked to perform at the NFL finals two years ago, but turned down the world’s best football league.
Pink won’t sing at Super Bowl
The singer doesn’t have good memories of the Super Bowl anyway. In 2018, for example, she performed the national anthem before the game – an extremely difficult performance.
“I had a cold. It was mediocre at best, but I was proud that I even got a note out. I was trying so hard,” Pink recalls.
She continues, “I wanted to be so classy and make my dad proud. But I had a throat lozenge in my mouth and I took it out before the song started. And of course that was the first thing the camera caught.”
There was also a fair amount of criticism surrounding the Halftime Show this year. Accusations of playback were made against singer Rihanna.
